During the ECSS Congress 2019 in Prague, CORTEX will host this unique lecture/workshop:

The lecture takes the participants into the heart of life support in human space travel. Important questions are answered: How is car- bon dioxide exhaled by astronauts converted to oxygen? How are material cycles almost closed? Which training measures are carried out with the astronauts?
This is followed by the second part: How can cardiopulmonary functions be monitored during the astronauts‘ exercises in weight- lessness? The Institute of Aerospace Technology at TU Dresden, supported by the company CORTEX Biophysik GmbH, ESA and DLR carried out experiments on the space station with the astronaut Alexander Gerst. It is shown which technical challenges have to be mastered to provide a smart and mobile system for cardiopulmonary analysis in space. An overview of the experiments and the training with Alexander Gerst will be given and first results will be shown.

Tino Schmiel, Dr.-Ing., is scientist and lecturer for Human Space Flight and Satellite Systems at the Institute of Aerospace Engineer- ing at Dresden University of Technology. He conducted various experiments on satellites, rockets and the space station. As Principle Investigator of MetabolicSpace he can give a deep insight into the cardioplumunar experiments with Alexander Gerst.

Date and Time: 3. July 2019, 10:30 - 12:00 o'clock
Room: Club H
held  by: Dr.-Ing. Tino Schmiel
